About (Still under construction)

Who governs? This is one of the most fundamental questions in political science. However, there is currently no data set on the composition of cabinets over a long span of time in a large group of countries. Stuart Bramwell and I therefore created a new data set, which fills this gap. These pages present the data set.

The data set contains yearly data on members of cabinets in all countries that have experienced dictatorship at some point since 1966. In total, the data covers 143 countries from 1966 to 2016. The data set represents the most comprehensive information on cabinets currently available and can help researchers answer many empirical questions where the current data is insufficient. The data can be downloaded from the tab data and you can play around with graphical representations of the data at visualizations.

You can find a paper introducing the data set here.
